Football is a real passion amongst southern Italians and Naples is no exception. Serie A is the equivalent of the premiership and consists of 18 teams. The big Serie A team is Napoli, with many well-known and highly regarded players. The legendary Maradonna was once a member of this team before his fall from grace. In Naples the main football ground is the Stadio di San Paolo in Fuorigrotta, a western suburb of Naples.

There are many freshwater lakes and streams in and around Naples that are heavily stocked and ideal for fresh water fishing. To fish in fresh water you need to purchase a year's membership card from the Federazione Italiana della Pesca Sportiva, which has an office is every province. Sea fishing is possible from the shores, from boats and even underwater and is allowed almost everywhere without a permit.

At most resorts it is possible to hire boats and equipment.
Naples Beaches - Naples, Italy
Many beaches in and around Naples are flat and very popular with tourists. Those situated around the Bay of Naples usually consist of grey volcanic sand and the free public beaches are often small and crowded, with minimal facilities, although very sunny. To enjoy the best beach resorts you will usually have to pay a small fee and then you can enjoy some of the finest stretches of sand (often imported sand). For some of the most attractive beaches in Naples, head for Positano, Minori, Procida, Capri and the Almafi coast, which is without doubt one of the most stunning stretches of shoreline in the whole of Italy.
